Every family seems to have at least one box of old photos tucked away in a dusty closet, a damp basement, or a hot attic. Odds are most of the photos aren’t labeled, and any family members who could have identified them are gone. Just looking at the piles can be overwhelming, and it’s tempting to just deal with them later. But ignoring the photos only makes the problem worse. Stored in paper and plastic, vulnerable to moisture and heat, old photos inevitably fade. Letters and newspapers crumble, and everything seems to rip and stick together. And once they’re gone, they can’t be replaced.
